Indian cricket team’s new batting coach Abhishek Nayar has recently given a big statement and told why no vice-captain has been appointed in the team other than captain Rohit Sharma in the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh.

Before Bangladesh, the Indian team went on a tour of Sri Lanka. During the T20 series and ODI series on this tour, young Shubman Gill played the role of deputy to Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma respectively. Whereas in the Test series that took place before this, Bumrah got this role.

However, now this is not seen in the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh. Also, there is a possibility that this may not be seen in the three-match T20 series starting after the Test series. But now regarding this matter, Abhishek said in a press conference held before the start of the second Test match against Bangladesh-

I think we need to understand that we have a lot of IPL captains in this team. When you talk about players like Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, hopefully Yashasvi Jaiswal will also step up. There are a lot of players who have captained their franchises.

I would not look at them as youngsters anymore. Yes, they are youngsters in terms of age and the amount of cricket they have played. But, I think overall, mentally and in their development as a cricketer, they have the leadership qualities that are needed. So, you don’t need a vice-captain who has to be announced.

On the other hand, India will now play the second Test match against Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur from September 27. India has already taken a 1-0 lead in the Test series by winning the Chennai Test match by 280 runs.
