The ongoing T20I series against Sri Lanka was Gautam Gambhir’s first appointment as coach of any cricket team. But the real challenge for Gambhir will begin next month, when from August 2, he will have to join the ODI team, which includes some of the biggest names of Indian and international cricket.

So, according to ESPN Cricinfo’s reports on this issue, a source closely associated with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) says that the biggest challenge for the Indian team’s head coach Gambhir will be to manage the superstars, which include big names like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jaspreet Bumrah. Managing these players is not going to be easy for Gambhir.

Let us tell you that a BCCI source said about Gautam Gambhir- Managing these players is not an easy task. It is not like a franchise where you are the boss and you have your terms and conditions. That will not work here. You will have to pick up the phone in the dressing room of the Indian cricket team, talk to the players, in which Rahul Dravid was quite adept.

The source further said- When Dravid joined this system, he found it a different kind of challenge, because the cricket scenario has changed a lot since his retirement. Every player is a millionaire and captains their respective franchise teams. So, this is going to be a big challenge for Gambhir.

Also, according to the report, Gautam Gambhir has talked to veteran all-rounder Hardik Pandya and told him what he wants from him. For this, Gambhir has also requested the selectors committee that the all-rounder should be available for selection at all times.
