The Curran brothers are among the most successful cricketers in England, but the journey of all three has been quite different from each other. While Tom and Sam Curran took their careers to great heights in England, their middle brother Ben Curran is now making a new beginning in his cricketing career with his native country Zimbabwe.

Ben Curran is the son of Zimbabwean great Kevin Curran. The Curran brothers spent their early life in Rusape in eastern Zimbabwe. After their father passed away in 2012, all the brothers moved to England, where Tom and Sam made their mark with Surrey and the England national team.

However, 28-year-old Ben Curran took a different path. After playing with Northamptonshire, he is now continuing his cricket journey in Zimbabwe, where he is eligible for national selection. Recently, Ben scored 458 runs in the Logan Cup, Zimbabwe’s premier first-class competition, including two half-centuries and a century.

“I have a deep connection to Zimbabwe” – Ben Curran

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Ben said, “My accent is a bit of a mix of both England and Zimbabwe, but I have a deep connection to Zimbabwe. Most of my childhood memories are from there, and my parents are from there too. When we were young, I was probably four or five years old, we moved to Zimbabwe. I have spent most of my life there.”

“What a story that would be” – Ben Curran

Ben Curran realises that playing for Zimbabwe will be a great achievement for him. Interestingly, next year England will host Zimbabwe and Ben might have the opportunity to play against one of his brothers.

He said, “What a story it would be if it happened. Probably a little weird, special and mixed emotions. But it would be even more special for my mother.”

“I will complete the journey like my father” – Ben Curran

Ben Curran’s journey is similar to that of his father Kevin Curran, who played cricket for both Zimbabwe and Northamptonshire. He said-

“It’s a full circle. My dad played for Northampton and now I can play for Zimbabwe, where he played and coached.”

Ben Curran is currently preparing for the upcoming season with the Mid-West Rhinos and is focused on performing consistently. He said-

“I just have to perform and take care of what is in my control. That will give me the best chance to move forward.”
