A big news is coming out from the cricket world. Scotland and Australia will face each other in their first bilateral men’s T20I series in Edinburgh in September 2024. It is worth noting that the Australian team will tour Australia after 11 years. A three-match T20 series will be played on this tour and all the matches will be played at The Grange on 4, 6 and 7 September.
This announcement came just before the match between the two teams in the current T20 World Cup 2024. Apart from this, Cricket Australia (CA) was to play three ODIs and one T20 match against Ireland in August and September, but Ireland withdrew hosting that series due to financial issues, after which the Australia board decided to tour Scotland.
Regarding the tour of Australia team Big statement from ScotRail CEO Trudy Lindblad
“Cricket Australia came to us and said we would like to partner with you and we said we would definitely like to partner with you, we just need to find a way to make it happen,” Trudy Lindblad, CEO of Cricket Scotland, was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
So, for us, Australia coming to Scotland before playing in England was no easy task and we were just looking for a way to make it possible. And thanks to the support of (CA CEO) Nick Hockley and his team at Cricket Australia, we were able to make this series happen.”
Interestingly, Scotland and Australia have faced each other in only five international matches so far, all of which are ODIs. They have clashed twice in the World Cup. Australia have won both the matches played against Scotland at The Grange and will hope for a similar performance on the upcoming tour.
Cricket Scotland CEO said: “Australia coming to Scotland, playing three T20 Internationals at the Grange, what a way to end the year when we have been through such an incredibly difficult time, it will be a celebration of cricket in Scotland and we hope everyone will get behind it. We can show everyone that cricket is well and truly growing in Scotland and what a great game it is for everyone to enjoy.”
