All-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed is in the headlines these days. It is being told that during his ongoing rehab at NCA, he has no contact with the Bengal Cricket Association (CAB) nor is he picking up the calls of CAB officials. Be it the President, the coaching staff or his teammates, no one has any information about Shahbaz’s whereabouts.

In the quarter-final of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2023, against Haryana, Shahbaz Ahmed played an inning of 100 runs in 118 balls which included 4 fours and 4 sixes. But on December 11, Shahbaz played his last match for his state, after which he went to NCA for treatment, where things seemed to have changed.

Shahbaz Ahmed did not join Bengal camp

Left-arm spinner Shahbaz Ahmed was to join the Bengal camp by the third or fourth match of this Ranji season. But he did not participate. After this the state association reported to the NCA, which the CAB did not like. CAB President Snehasish Ganguly has given his strong reaction on this.

He told Sportskeeda in a report, I don’t know what is happening with him. I called him but he did not answer. I have also written to NCA with some questions against its report. We are also cricketers and know how long it takes for an injury to heal. Whatever Shahbaz is, he is because of Bengal and he should be there when Bengal needs him.

‘Describing this entire incident as unfortunate, assistant coach Saurasish Lahiri also gave a similar reaction. He said, it is really unfortunate. None of us know anything about him. The President had called him and he did not even answer that call. I don’t know why he is doing this.

Let us tell you that Shahbaz Ahmed has been traded from Royal Challengers Bangalore to Sunrisers Hyderabad for IPL 2024. He is likely to be out of the opening league matches of the tournament. In Ranji Trophy 2023-24, Bengal team is currently placed fifth in Group B with seven points.
