Bangladesh cricket team has appointed Charith Asalanka as the stand-in captain of the team for the first two T20 matches against Bangladesh. It is noteworthy that currently the regular captain of Sri Lanka team, Wanindu Hasaranga will not be able to take part in the first two T20 matches against Bangladesh due to the ban.

Let us tell you that Hasaranga has been banned for two matches for on-field conduct. Some time ago, he had protested against the umpire giving no ball to a ball going above the waist at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, after which the ICC has banned him for two matches. According to ICC rules related to ban, if a player gets four or more demerit points within two years, then these points are converted into a match ban.

So in the absence of Wanindu Hasarga, Sri Lanka Cricket Board has added Jeffrey Vandersay to the team as his replacement. Jeffrey was last seen playing for Sri Lanka in the T20 format in February 2022. So far, Sri Lanka has played 14 matches, in which he has taken a total of 7 wickets. Along with this, Pathum Nissanka has also not fully recovered from his hamstring injury, after which the team has added Avishka Fernando to the team as Nissanka’s replacement.

T20 series starts from March 4

It is noteworthy that currently Sri Lankan cricket team is on Bangladesh tour for the all-format series. Here she will be seen playing a three-match T20 series, three-match ODI and a two-match Test series. So the T20 series will start with the first match to be held in Sylhet on March 4.
