All-rounder Mike Proctor was born
In 1946, one of cricket’s greatest all-rounders, Mike Procter, was born. He played only 7 Test matches due to South Africa’s worldwide ban. Bowling at breakneck speed off the wrong foot, he took 26 wickets at 13.57 in his final series (1969-70) in which South Africa beat Australia 4-0. Later, he also faced controversies as an ICC match referee. He was in charge during Pakistan’s forfeited Test at the Oval in 2006, and was also in charge when Harbhajan Singh was banned in Sydney in 2007-08.
