Australia’s experienced batsman Chris Lynn is playing for Joburg Bangla Tigers in the Jim Afro T10 League 2024. Joburg Bangla Tigers have performed well so far in this tournament and have secured their place in the finals. Joburg Bangla Tigers will play the final match against Cape Town Samp Army on 29 September at the Harare Sports Club in Harare.
However, before this final, Chris Lynn made a big statement regarding the Jim Afro T10 League tournament and also praised his team. While talking to Crictracker, he also presented his side regarding his batting.
Chris Lynn was asked the question that he and Sunil Narine together made the record of scoring 105 in the powerplay for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL, which was broken by Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024. On this, the experienced player said, ‘Sunil Narayan is really an excellent player and scoring 105 runs in the powerplay is a big thing. We were in Bengaluru. Chahal is a very good bowler and we batted very well against him. We were on 99 runs and I hit a six on the last ball and took the team’s score beyond 100.
This year Head also scored 15 to 20 runs in every over and he batted really aggressively and broke this record. I am very happy for him myself.
Question: In Jim Afro T10 League also we saw players scoring centuries. You yourself have played many matches in T20 format. We have seen even the best scores being broken. What would you like to say about this tournament?
Chris Lynn: This is the shortest format of cricket and all the players want is to score the biggest score while batting aggressively. We should not consider anyone weak because the wicket is the same for everyone and the ball is also of the same size and the boundaries are also the same for everyone. This is my first time in Zimbabwe and the players also want to present their best performance in front of the world. We just want to finish this tournament on a high note. What are the young players who have left their mark in this tournament?
Question: When T20 cricket was started, questions were also raised on this. The T10 format is also in its infancy. What would you like to say about this format?
Chris Lynn: The best thing about this format is that you can play three matches in a single day. Sometimes you have to play two matches in the same day and it is a good challenge for the players as well and they get a chance to show tremendous performance against different teams. The T10 format is just beginning and it will take some time for the players to understand it.
Question: Just as the T20 format has achieved a new position at the international level, can the T10 format also do the same?
Chris Lynn: That’s a very good question. I personally believe that T20 format is better for franchise cricket. It should remain in franchise cricket only because the best players around the world are seen playing in franchise cricket and it is not so easy for them to play four day or ODI matches continuously.
Question: Border-Gavaskar Trophy is also about to start. Will Australia be able to break India’s winning streak?
Chris Lynn: I think it can happen but India cannot be taken lightly. That is a very strong team. Talking about Australia, Travis Head is in very good form at the moment. Even if the head bats at number four, Australia has a lot of strength in its batting lineup.
India have Ashwin and Jadeja but we also have Josh Hazlewood and Starc. This will be a very good series but according to me Australia will defeat Team India.
Question: You have played cricket under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir in Kolkata Knight Riders. What would you like to say about him as a coach?
Chris Lynn: Gautam Gambhir is a very good player and I have also opened with him. His mentality is really amazing. Gautam Gambhir just loves to win. He doesn’t think much about anything else. People criticize him but it is very difficult to defeat Team India.
Virat Kohli is with the Indian team and Australia also has very good coaches. Australia has performed very well under the coaching of Andrew McDonald.
Question: What is your favorite T10 memory?
Chris Lynn: We were playing a match in which I was batting on 91 and Adam Lyth was with me. It was the final over and all six balls were played by Adam Lyth. I was standing at the other end and I was also feeling very angry.
However, the best thing was that I won my first T10 tournament and that has always been important to me. There are many players in the world who play cricket only in T20 format. Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard and Nicholas Pooran. Although everyone wants to win the match.
Question: Three players from around the world whom you want to include in your team in T10 format?
Chris Lynn: Chris Gayle, Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga. With the arrival of Bumrah and Malinga, four overs of the team will be safe and we will only have to stop the runs in the remaining 6 overs. Chris Gayle is counted among the best players in the world. He has scored many centuries.
Question: Jim Afro has met many of his young players in the tournament. What did they ask you about?
Chris Lynn: All the young players are very good. All are talented players from Zimbabwe. The best thing is that young players know more and more about things and you can always see them listening carefully to things.
