The loan facility was approved by the West Midlands Combined Authority (DMCA) to cover the proposed plans by Warwickshire County Cricket Club.
Edgbaston Stadium, Birmingham, England was approved with a loan amounting to £18 billion in its bid to develop the ground. The loan facility was approved by the West Midlands Combined Authority (DMCA) to cover the proposed plans by Warwickshire County Cricket Club.
At the same time, the stadium is undergoing another renovation because it will develop a new viewing stand along with a four-star hotel. The stadium is now fully ready for redevelopment and construction is expected to begin in September 2025. Officers will spend the next six months talking to stakeholders including local residents and club members before presenting a proposed plan in the autumn. It is expected to be completed in Spring 2027 as this will also be the time when the hotel will become operational for the Ashes.
According to the proposed plan, the four-star hotel will have amenities like rooftop terraces, pitch-view rooms with balconies and hospitality boxes equipped with terraces. Meanwhile, the new stand will get a new concourse which will be great for food and drinks. Apart from this, proper facilities will also be provided for disabled spectators.
We would like to thank WMCA: Stuart Cain
Edgbaston chief executive Stuart Cain expressed his gratitude to the WMCA. According to The Construction Index, Stuart Cain said, ‘Getting funding is very important. We would like to thank WMCA due to which this important work is being done. We want that all people can enjoy international sports in the best possible way.
We will hold talks with all the local community and members and only then start work on this hotel. Many people love the game of cricket and I have full hope that everyone will support this cause.
