Ahead of the second Test match against South Africa, former Indian cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth demanded the inclusion of Ravichandran Ashwin in India’s playing eleven. Ashwin got a chance to play in the first Test due to Jadeja’s back spasm. In the Centurion Test, Ashwin bowled economically, conceding only 41 runs in 19 overs and taking just one wicket.
Srikanth asked to choose Ashwin instead of Shardul Thakur. He believes that Jadeja and Ashwin together can put pressure on the Proteas batsmen. Despite India opting for a four-man pace attack in the opening Test, the former India opener suggested that Ashwin can team effectively with Jadeja as he bowls economical and can help India against South Africa in the upcoming Cape Town Test. Can present a challenge to the lineup.
Ashwin is a better player than Shardul Thakur – K Srikanth
Srikanth said on his YouTube channel, “I will still give a chance to Ashwin. I believe Ashwin is better than Shardul Thakur. I will play Ashwin instead of Shardul. Even if he doesn’t take five wickets, he will definitely take some (wickets). Probably, he will form a good combination with Jadeja and bowl tightly. These two can work together and take 4-5 wickets, you never know. That will be enough, he will have done his job.”
It is noteworthy that the second and final Test is going to start from January 3 in Cape Town. In such a situation, Team India can consider changes in its playing eleven with the aim of leveling the series. Talking about the team combination, the 64-year-old stressed on the need for fairness and also talked about not dropping Prasidh Krishna after one match.
