Shami has been bought by SRH for Rs 10 crore.
Before the mega auction of IPL 2025, Gujarat Titans (GT) had decided to release experienced Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami. However, the team had the opportunity to get the player back through Right to Match (RTM) in the mega auction held in Jeddah, but they did not use it.
After this, the experienced bowler was included in the mega auction by 2016 IPL season champion Sunrisers Hyderabad in their team by paying Rs 10 crore. So now the team’s head coach and former Indian cricketer Ashish Nehra has given a big statement regarding Shami’s release from the GT team.
Ashish Nehra gave a big statement
Let us tell you that during a discussion with Geo Cinema, Ashish Nehra said- Whatever he (Mohammad Shami) has done for Gujarat Titans and India, I mean Shami was a part of our retention planning. But then you see that retention is a different type of thing.
Mohammed Shami, Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan, Sai Sudarshan – every team has a lot of options. We also had RTM that we could use. But considering the price at which it went, we did not use RTM. No matter what planning you have, when it comes to mega auctions, your planning will not be successful all the time.
On the other hand, if we give you information about the performance of Mohammed Shami for the one-time IPL champion Gujarat team, the 34-year-old experienced bowler had taken 48 wickets for the team. Even after this brilliant performance, the franchise released him from the team.
Well, Shami, who plays domestic cricket for Bengal, has recently made a comeback after ankle injury. He played a match against Madhya Pradesh in Ranji Trophy. Currently, he is playing for Bengal in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, in which he has taken 4 wickets in the three matches played.
