Former Indian player Dinesh Karthik has recently made a big statement and called Washington Sundar the replacement of Ravichandran Ashwin. Karthik believes that Sundar has performed well in whatever opportunities he has got. Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been playing brilliantly for India for years, especially in Test cricket. Ashwin has played 100 Test matches for India so far. He will be seen playing in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh.

Sundar should get his due – Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik while talking on Cricbuzz said,

India are definitely looking for the next generation of off-spinners as in the last India-A series against England Lions, they played three off-spinners in three matches – Pulkit Narang, Washington Sundar and Saransh Jain. They are trying and Washington Sundar is the frontrunner right now after Ravichandran Ashwin. He has done well in whatever limited chances he has got and I think he should get his due before going to anyone else.

Ashwin has taken 516 wickets in Tests so far

Ravichandran Ashwin has taken 516 wickets in 100 Test matches so far. He is the highest wicket-taker in the Test format after Anil Kumble (619). At the same time, he has also scored 3309 runs in 141 innings at a strike rate of 26.26, which includes 5 centuries. Ashwin played his last ODI for India against Australia during the World Cup 2023. At the same time, his last T20 International match was against England in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022.

This has been the performance of Washington Sundar in international cricket so far

Washington Sundar has played 4 Test matches for India so far, in which he has scored 265 runs at an average of 66.25 and taken 6 wickets at an average of 49.83, economy of 3.41. At the same time, in 22 ODIs, he has scored 315 runs at an average of 24.23, strike rate of 82.89, and has also taken 23 wickets at an average of 27.22, economy of 4.71.

At the same time, if we talk about Sundar’s performance in T20 format, he has scored 160 runs in 49 matches at an average of 13.33 and a strike rate of 129.03 and has taken 44 wickets at an average of 24.64 and economy of 6.93.
