Mumbai batsman Shreyas Iyer is eager to return to the Indian Test team with confidence after recovering from back surgery. 29-year-old Shreyas Iyer, who made his Test debut almost three years ago, scored a century in red-ball cricket during the Ranji Trophy second round match against Maharashtra on Saturday. His last first-class century was scored against New Zealand in the Kanpur Test in November 2021.
After scoring a century in Ranji Trophy, Shreyas Iyer said while talking to journalists, “It feels very special to score a century after a very long time. Obviously, I was feeling a little bit down with my injuries, but now, to score a century after a very long time, overall it is a great feeling.”
Shreyas Iyer wants to return to Test cricket
Shreyas Iyer, who was dropped from the BCCI’s central contract list earlier this year, last played a home Test series against England in February. Whereas he participated in the ODI series against Sri Lanka in August. Now he wants to return to the Indian Test team as soon as possible.
Regarding his return to Test cricket, Iyer said, “I am completely eager to return. But as we say, control the things that can be controlled. My job is to continue to perform well and play as much cricket as possible. It also takes care that the fitness of the body is maintained.
He said, “I am desperate to play in the Test. That’s why I’m playing, I mean if that wasn’t the case then I could have found some reason to sit down.” The Indian team is currently playing a three-match Test series against New Zealand. Now after this, India will play a five-match Test series against Australia in November, it will be interesting to see whether Shreyas Iyer gets a chance there or not.
