Amid the criticism, former India cricketer Dinesh Karthik backed Virat and said that batting in Sri Lanka is very tough. He said that he was not trying to defend Kohli in any way, but the conditions in Sri Lanka can be very harsh for a batsman at times.
Dinesh Karthik was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz, “It has been a tough pitch to play spin on in this series, let’s admit that first. Be it Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, or anyone else. With a little bit of semi new ball between about 8 to 30 overs, it has been a tough job.
There is nothing to worry about. Not too many pitches work like this, but it was a tough pitch for spinners to play. I am not going to defend Virat Kohli here, but I can tell you that it was very tough to play spin.”
