MLC becomes the second associate-run franchise league to be granted List-A status.
The first season of Major League Cricket (MLC) was very successful. The league received a lot of love from millions of fans around the world. Its second season is starting from July 5, while the final match will be played on July 28. Before the start of the second season of Major League Cricket, the International Cricket Board has taken a big decision.
The ICC has given List-A cricket status to MLC. The league has become the second associate-run franchise league to receive List-A status. Earlier, UAE’s ILT-20 also received List-A status.
The tournament director thanked the ICC
Major League Cricket’s tournament director Justin Gayle thanked the ICC and said that this move will help the USA a lot in the field of sports. Talking to ESPNcricinfo, he said, ‘We are really excited about this as it is a recognition of the standard and high quality of players participating in the tournament. The strength of the tournament has increased after getting List A status. And it will help increase the credibility of the game in the United States on the global stage.
Let us tell you that earlier the records made in Major League Cricket were not added to T20 cricket. But after getting List-A status from the ICC, the records made in the tournament will now be counted as statistics of the official format.
Three IPL franchises are also part of MLC
According to a report by The Guardian, the number of teams in Major League Cricket may increase from 6 to 10 in the coming years. Three IPL franchises are also part of this league, including MI New York, Los Angeles Knight Riders, and Texas Super Kings. Apart from these, San Francisco Unicorns, Seattle Orkers, and Washington Freedom are also part of the league. The number of matches in the league will also be increased to 34 by 2025. 19 matches were played in the league last season. A total of 24 matches will be played in the upcoming season.
