Former veteran player Sunil Gavaskar had strongly criticized the decision to make three changes in Team India in the second Test.
The second match of the Test series between India and New Zealand is being played in Pune. After losing by 8 wickets in the first test, Team India made three major changes. Shubman Gill returned and Washington Sundar, Akash Deep were also included in the playing 11.
Former Indian veteran player Sunil Gavaskar had strongly criticized the decision of the team management. Gavaskar had said after the toss that, for the second Test against New Zealand, India might have nervously included Washington Sundar in place of Kuldeep Yadav in the playing eleven.
The veteran also said that no team makes three changes unless there is an injury concern. But now, seeing Washington Sundar’s performance against New Zealand, Sunil Gavaskar has taken a U-turn and is praising the young bowler a lot.
What an inspiring selection – Sunil Gavaskar said about Sundar
Washington Sundar took seven wickets for 59 runs in 23.1 overs in the first innings against New Zealand. He took the wickets of Rachin Ravindra (65), Tom Blundell (3), Daryl Mitchell (18), Glenn Phillips (9), Tim Southee (5), Ajaz Patel (4) and Mitchell Santner (33).
Commenting on Sundar’s brilliant bowling on the first day of the game, Sunil Gavaskar said, “What an inspired choice. He has been selected in the playing-11 because he can bat a little and bowl a little.”
Washington Sundar has taken three wickets so far in the second innings
Washington Sundar has maintained his excellent form in the second innings against New Zealand. He has so far sent three batsmen to the pavilion. Sundar first dealt the first blow to New Zealand’s score of 36 by dismissing Devon Conway (17) in the 10th over. After this he dismissed Rachin Ravindra (9) and Daryl Mitchell (18) cheaply.
