Shivam Dube First Maiden Wicket- Video: The first match of the 3-match ODI series between India and Sri Lanka was played on August 2. All-rounder Shivam Dube took his first ODI wicket for India during the ongoing first ODI against Sri Lanka. He dismissed Kusal Mendis for 14 (31).
The conditions were favorable for seam bowlers and Shivam Dube got enough movement to beat Kusal Mendis’ defense. The ball pitched on a good length and hit Mendis’ back pad straight away. Although Kusal Mendis took a review, he had to return to the pavilion even after the replays showed it to be a no-ball.

Shivam Dubey put the brakes on Sri Lanka’s momentum
Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first as they expected the pitch to slow down as the game progressed. However, the overcast skies helped Indian pacers Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh a lot.
Avishka Fernando tried to flick Siraj’s ball outside the off stump and the ball went into the hands of Arshdeep Singh at third man and the team lost its first wicket at 7 runs. After this, Kusal Mendis along with Pathum Nissanka started strengthening the Sri Lankan innings.
The duo tackled the opening spells of Siraj and Arshdeep and looked like they were taking the match away from India by pressing their foot on the accelerator. However, Rohit Sharma’s bowling change worked when he brought in Shivam Dube. Dube dismissed Kusal Mendis. With this, Sri Lanka lost their second wicket.
The partnership between Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis was starting to look dangerous after Sri Lanka lost wickets early and hence Mendis’ dismissal was timely. Shivam Dube’s breakthrough put India in control.
