IPL is starting from 22nd March
The wait of the cricket fans who are eagerly waiting for the 17th season of IPL is now finally over. Let us tell you that the tournament is starting from March 22, while the first match will be played between the defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers at MA Chidambaram Stadium.
So, it is worth noting that while most of the teams will play their home matches on home ground, the 2020 runner-up Delhi Capitals will have to play two of their home matches in Vizag.
In Vizag, Delhi has to face Chennai Super Kings on March 31 and Kolkata Knight Riders on April 3. In such a situation, a question might be coming in your mind as to why this has happened. So let us answer your question-
For this reason, Delhi Capitals will play two home matches in Vizag.
Let us tell you that if Cricbuzz reports are to be believed, the main reason behind this is the second phase of the Women’s Premier League, which is going to be held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi between March 5 and March 17. The first phase of the Women’s Premier League will be held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore from February 23, while the second phase will be held in Delhi.
Due to 11 consecutive matches, including the eliminator and the final, due to wear and tear on the pitch, Delhi Capitals franchise has decided to play its two home matches in Visakhapatnam, Vizag.
This decision has been taken after both the BCCI and the franchise have expressed uncertainty about the condition of the ground due to continuous matches on the pitch. However, after this, when the pitch recovers well, the Capitals will play their remaining 5 home matches in Delhi only.
Also, let us tell you that BCCI has released the schedule only for the first 21 matches of IPL, and as soon as the tournament starts, the remaining schedule is also likely to be released.
