IPL 2024: The player who was bought by Punjab Kings by mistake got only 8 balls to prove himself, know what happened next?

After bringing in this player, the Punjab team realized that they had bid on the wrong player.

Shashank Singh: Punjab Kings’ explosive batsman Shashank Singh scored 21 runs on 8 balls in the match against RCB. In the match played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 25, the Punjab Kings team was struggling to reach a respectable score. Looking at the Bengaluru pitch, RCB batsmen can easily reach this score. However, in the last over, Shashank, who was mistakenly included in the auction by Punjab, increased Punjab’s runs and took the team to 176.

Shashank Singh scored 20 runs in the 20th over of Alzarri Joseph. He started the over with a six over square leg. Joseph bowled the next ball well and Shashank did not get a single run. But on the third ball, Shashank pulled his short pitch ball towards midwicket and sent it into the stands. He again hit a four on the next ball. He could score only one run on the fifth ball. But after continuous boundaries, Joseph also faltered and bowled a wide ball under pressure. Shashank could score only one run on the last ball but his three big hits in the last over took Punjab to 176 runs.

Shashank Singh performed brilliantly for Punjab in the last over. But the chance of his entry into the Punjab Kings team is equally different. During the IPL auction in December 2023, Punjab had mistakenly bid in Shashank’s name. There were two players named Shashank Singh in the pool of players available for the auction. One was 32 year old Shashank from Chhattisgarh and the other was 19 year old player Shashank Singh. As soon as Shashank’s name came up, Punjab team owner Preity Zinta bid at the base price of Rs 20 lakh. Other teams did not show any interest in bidding for Shashank, so Shashank joined the Punjab team.

After bringing in Shashank, the Punjab team realized that they had bid on the wrong player. This created confusion in the team camp and they demanded the auctioneers to replace the player. But by then time had passed. But Punjab Kings later clarified that the uncapped all-rounder, who remained unsold in the auction after being released by Sunrisers Hyderabad last year, was always in their player list and hence has not been bought in the auction by mistake.

Shashank has played a total of 56 T20 matches in his cricket career, in which he has scored 761 runs with five half-centuries and a strike rate of 135.58. Shashank has also been a part of Delhi Daredevils (Delhi Capitals), Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals in IPL.

To reach the WTC final, Team India will have to win the BGT series 4-0. Marnus Labuschagne and Virat Kohli Virat Kohli is performing poorly with the bat at the moment. He is struggling to score runs continuously. He has not scored a century in Tests since the West Indies tour in 2023. Even in the recent Bangladesh and New Zealand series, he could not do anything special. He could score only 93 runs in the three-Test series against New Zealand. In the New Zealand series, all the Indian batsmen were seen struggling against spin. Kohli was also struggling to counter the spin. Indian veterans have also given him suggestions and advice on his poor batting. Meanwhile, Australian batsman Marnus Labuschagne recalled Kohli’s performance in 2018. He also said that the batsmen are missing the same performance. Labuschagne told Star Sports, my first memory of Virat from a sporting perspective was probably the 2018 series. He was the captain at that time and I think he was very intense. When I watched the series, it was a very intense series. I probably haven’t seen Virat like that after that series. He has been doing well for a long time, but this is my first memory. BGT will have to win 4-0 to reach WTC finals It is noteworthy that after the defeat at the hands of New Zealand on home soil, the Indian team is going to play the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. India has never lost a BGT series since 2016–17. They have won the series on both occasions since 2016. The BGT 2024-25 series is very important for India, because to reach the World Test Championship final, Team India will have to win this series 4-0. That means it is very important to win at least 4 out of five matches. Currently, Australia is on top in the WTC points table followed by India at second place.

Gautam Gambhir (Pic Source-X) After Rahul Dravid stepped down from the post, Gautam Gambhir has become the head of the Indian team and under his leadership, Team India has suffered two major historic defeats. Recently, India lost the Test series against New Zealand 0-3, after which many questions have been raised regarding Gambhir’s coaching. However, Rohit Sharma has defended him. Meanwhile, former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has called Rahul Dravid a better coach than Gautam Gambhir. Basit said that Rahul Dravid was a smart coach who knew what kind of pitch India needed to prepare to win on home soil. In the video shared on his YouTube channel, Basit Ali said that Rahul Dravid’s mind is better than Gautam Gambhir. Dravid made pitches for four days where the ball took turn in the last few days. Now you are making such pitches, where even a person who is not a regular spinner is getting a lot from the first day. Dravid knew the psychology of players – Basit Ali Basit Ali also said that Rahul Dravid was a good coach. He knew the psychology of the players. If you ask Virat Kohli to play T10 and T20 in Test cricket, then it is not fair in any way. Let us tell you that Gambhir’s tenure as India’s head coach has had a disappointing start. Under his leadership, the Indian team lost its bilateral series against Sri Lanka in 27 years. After the New Zealand series, Team India will now tour Australia for the Border-Gavaskar series in November. India needs to win this series 4-0 to make it to the World Test Championship final.
