IPL 2025 Mega Auction Scheduled to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on 24 and 25 November. The eyes of cricket fans around the world are going to be focused on the auction. For the first time since 2018, RTM (Right to Match) cards will be used in the IPL auction. However, this time some changes have also been made regarding this. Some franchises are happy with the rule coming back, while some franchises are against it.

As per the IPL 2025 retention rules, each franchise was allowed to retain 6 players, which included a maximum of two capped, and two uncapped players. Franchises that have retained less than 6 players will have the option to use the same number of RTM cards.

What is RTM (Right to Match) card?

By using the RTM card, every franchise can re-induct its old player into the team. Some changes have been made in it. If the franchise wants to use RTM for its player, the remaining franchises will have another chance to put forward the bid. The team using RTM must match the increased bid.

Which team can use RTM cards the most in IPL 2025 mega auction?

Punjab Kings (PBKS) can use four RTM cards during the mega auction. The franchise won 18 and lost 24 out of 42 matches played in the last three seasons, due to which the management decided to completely overhaul the team and retained only two players – Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh – ahead of the auction.

Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals have retained 6 players ahead of the IPL mega auction. Therefore, both the franchises do not have a single RTM card left.

New change in use of RTM card

When a team uses the RTM card, the original bidder gets one last chance to increase its bid. If the original bidder increases its bid, the team using the RTM card must match it to keep the player. If the team using the RTM card decides not to match the bid, the original bidder gets the player and the team that used the RTM card first keeps him for later.
