Former Australia captain and new head coach of Punjab Kings, Ricky Ponting has told whether Chennai Super Kings (CSK) can adopt its own formula to manage MS Dhoni’s workload management in IPL 2025. He praised the former CSK captain for playing for so long in the Indian Premier League.

CSK has retained Dhoni for Rs 4 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Former India and Chennai captain Dhoni was retained as an uncapped player as he last played an international match five years ago. Ricky Ponting has made a big prediction regarding 43-year-old Dhoni. Ponting says that CSK will not field Mahi in all the matches in IPL 2025.

Before IPL 2025, Ricky Ponting gave a big statement regarding MS Dhoni.

Ricky Ponting feels that in order to increase Dhoni’s impact in the upcoming season of IPL, he will be given rest sometimes so that the workload can also be managed. Ponting said in the recent episode of ICC Review, “Two seasons ago he probably had his worst season but then he bounced back last year.

He made an impact in some matches like the old MS Dhoni. I think it will be the same now. They may not field him the entire season. They can think of keeping him out of the match and giving him rest to ensure his best performance.”

Let us tell you that under the leadership of Dhoni, CSK has won five IPL trophies. MS Dhoni had handed over the CSK captaincy to Rituraj Gaikwad before IPL 2024. However, the Chennai team was not successful in reaching the playoffs last season. CSK stood fifth in the points table.

Ponting said, “Whichever team he is in, whether he is the captain or not, he will always be a mentor and leader for that team. Even if he is playing or sitting outside. His height is so big. Dhoni is important for Chennai as he provides leadership on and off the field.”
