Delhi Capitals parted ways with Ponting in July 2024.
Former Australian captain and legendary cricketer Ricky Ponting’s journey with Delhi Capitals as head coach ended in July 2024. Ponting was working with the team as head coach since the franchise was renamed from Delhi Daredevils to Delhi Capitals in 2018.
So, after Ponting’s departure, Delhi Capitals franchise co-owner Parth Jindal had said that he wanted to appoint an Indian as the new coach of the team, who could stay in the country and find the talent of the local players and promote those who were unable to do punting.
So now the 49-year-old former cricketer has also said that Delhi Capitals wanted to go in a different direction regarding coaching and he was not suitable for it. However, Ponting is very excited about his comeback in the upcoming season.
Many IPL franchises are looking for coaches for the upcoming season, so Ponting can fit in many of them. It is worth noting that before becoming the coach of Delhi Capitals, Ponting has worked with Mumbai Indians.
I would love to coach in the IPL again: Ricky Ponting
Let us tell you that recently in the latest episode of ICC Review, Ricky Ponting said- I would love to coach in IPL again. I had a great time every year whenever I joined it, whether it was the initial days as a player or a few years as the head coach in Mumbai.
Ponting further said- Then I spent 7 seasons with Delhi Capitals as head coach, which unfortunately did not work out. My going there was like bringing some silverware, which did not happen. They (DC) made it clear that they wanted to go in a different direction, with someone who could give them a little more time and a little more availability during the off-season.
