In the match, Lucknow captain KL Rahul had won the toss and decided to bowl first, which proved to be correct. Batting first, Mumbai Indians scored 144 runs on the board at the loss of 7 wickets. Nehal Vadhera played the highest innings of 46 runs for the team.

There was a partnership of 53 runs for the fifth wicket between Ishan Kishan and Nehal Vadhera. Ishan Kishan lost his wicket in the 14th over after scoring 32 runs in 36 balls. After which, in the 18th over, Mohsin Khan bowled Nehal Vadhera with a precise yorker ball. Nehal Vadhera played an important inning of 46 runs in 41 balls with the help of 4 fours and 2 sixes. Whereas Tim David played an unbeaten inning of 35 runs in 17 balls with the help of 3 fours and 1 six.
