According to ESPNcricinfo report, Shami may have to play the Duleep Trophy to prove his match fitness before making an international comeback with the Test series against Bangladesh in September. The 33-year-old Shami is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, and is in the final stages of his rehab. It was further reported that the right-arm pacer has shown great progress, which was confirmed by Indian men’s senior selection committee chief Ajit Agarkar.

In the press conference before the Lanka tour, Mohammed Shami said, “We more or less know who those people are, there are some injuries at the moment and hopefully they will come back. Shami has started bowling which is a good sign. The first Test is on September 19 and the goal was always that he should be fit before that. I don’t know if this is the time frame for his recovery or not, I will have to ask the NCA people about this.”
He further added, “There are a lot of Tests coming up. We will need some depth. Bumrah, Shami and Siraj have been around for a while, that is obvious. But there will be some talks around that. There is a lot of first-class cricket coming up so we can prepare guys that way.”
Apart from this, Shami recently Before making an international comeback, he had expressed his desire to play first class cricket for his domestic team Bengal. Now it will be interesting to see whether Mohammed Shami is able to make a comeback in the series against Bangladesh or not.
