NZ vs ENG 1st Test, Day-2 Report: The first match of the ongoing three-match Test series between New Zealand and England is being played at Hagley Oval, Christchurch from 28 November. So after the second day’s play, England trailed host New Zealand by just 29 runs on the basis of first innings.

Responding to New Zealand’s 319 runs in the first innings, England scored 319 runs for the loss of five wickets after 74 overs by the time the game of hearts ended. Currently, Harry Brook is batting on 132* and Ben Stokes is batting on 37* runs at the crease. This is also Brook’s 7th century in Test cricket.

Talking about the day’s play, New Zealand started with 319/8 runs and after adding 29 more runs, the entire team was all out on the total score of 348 runs. Glenn Phillips, who was unbeaten on 41 at the time of stumps on the first day, remained unbeaten on 58*.

Apart from this, Tim Southee was out after scoring 15 runs. So in bowling, Shoaib Bashir and Brayden Curse took 4-4 wickets in the first innings for England. Apart from this, Gus Atkinson got 2 wickets.

So the top order did not perform anything special for England. Jack Crawley (0), who came to open, was out LBW against Matt Henry without scoring any runs, while Jacob Baithle, who came at number three, scored 10 and after this, former captain Joe Root (0) was also out cheaply.

However, after this, there was a 151-run partnership between Harry Brook (132*) and Ollie Pope (77*) for the fifth wicket for England, which put England in a strong position. In the match, Glenn Phillips took an excellent catch in the air from Ollie Pope.

In the match, Brook scored the 7th century of his Test career. So far, in bowling for New Zealand, Nathan Smith has got 2 successes and Tim Southee, Matt Henry and William O’Rourke have got 1 success each.
