‘Punjabi punter’ Ricky Ponting is ready to make aggressive bids in the IPL auction.

The mega auction for IPL 2025 is scheduled to take place from today, November 24, in Jeddah city of Saudi Arabia. So in this auction a total of 333 players will be seen bidding. All 10 teams will be seen bidding in this auction with an aim to fill the 205 vacant spots in the team.

So in this mega auction, Punjab Kings (PBKS) is the team with the highest remaining purse value. The team has a budget of Rs 110.50 crore. Apart from this, before the 18th season of IPL, the team has entrusted the responsibility of coaching in its team to former legendary Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting. So in this auction, Ponting is going to be seen making aggressive bids.

It is noteworthy that due to participating in this auction on behalf of Punjab team, Ponting has left the commentary duty midway in the ongoing BGT series. Apart from Ponting, Lucknow Supergiants coach Justin Langer and Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Daniel Vettori, who is also Australia’s assistant coach, have left the first BGT Test midway to fly to Jeddah.

Let us tell you that before the start of the auction for IPL 2025, Punjab Kings has shared a video of Ponting on its official Instagram account. In this video Ponting said- I have not learned any Punjabi yet.

I am obviously going there as a cricket coach. So, I can teach the players some cricket, maybe they will teach me some Punjabi. I’m excited about this little phase of my IPL coaching career, so it should be a lot of fun.

Ponting further said- Obviously this is a team which has not got much success in IPL. I have been fortunate to have been with some successful teams, Mumbai Indians and then Delhi Capitals, where we did well, and remained in the playoffs every season.
