Ravindra Jadeja also took five wickets in New Zealand’s second innings, completing a stellar performance by taking 10 wickets (10/120) in the third and final Test of the series at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday. This became Jadeja’s second best performance in his Test career, after taking five wickets in New Zealand’s first innings. His best performance came against Australia in Delhi in 2023 where he recorded figures of 10/110.
This is the first time in Ravindra Jadeja’s career that Jadeja has taken five wickets in both the innings. His five-wicket haul in the first innings gave India an early lead and his brilliant bowling in the second innings kept the New Zealand lineup under constant pressure. Along with this, he also achieved a special achievement against New Zealand.
Let us tell you that Jadeja has become the second Indian bowler to take five wickets in both the innings of the same Test. Before Jadeja, this feat was achieved by R Ashwin. Ashwin achieved this remarkable feat twice. First he achieved this feat against Australia in Chennai (2013), then he achieved this feat against South Africa in Nagpur (2015).
With this performance, Jadeja has now joined the special list of Indian bowlers who have taken 10 wickets most number of times in Test cricket. There itself Jadeja is the third highest wicket taker in this WTC cycle. Ashwin is at the first place in the wicket-taking list with 62 wickets, while Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood is at the second place with 51 wickets.
