Former PCB chief Zaka Ashraf’s big statement – ‘I had offered Babar Azam to remain the captain in red ball cricket’

However, after this Babar rejected this offer, and said that I would rather be removed from the captaincy position in every format than be the captain in one format. It is noteworthy that after Pakistan cricket team could not reach the playoffs in the ICC Cricket World 2023 held in India, Babar Azam had resigned from the captaincy of all three formats of Pakistan cricket team. But now news is coming that Pakistan Cricket Board wants Babar Azam to take command of the team again in white ball cricket by replacing Shaheen Afridi. Zaka Ashraf was quoted as saying about Babar Azam – I offered to keep Babar Azam as the captain for red ball cricket, but we wanted to appoint a new captain for white ball cricket. He responded by saying that if he was removed as captain in one format, he would step down from captaincy in all formats. Ashraf further said- After this I suggested him (Babar Azam) that you should focus more on playing as a player for the Pakistan cricket team. It was obviously clear that dealing with the pressure of captaincy was quite challenging for Babar Azam. On the other hand, if we give you information about Pakistan cricket team, it is going to host New Zealand cricket team in a five-match T20 series very soon. The first match of the series will be played in Rawalpindi on 18 April.

Today, big news is coming out from Pakistan Cricket that PCB has appointed its Election Commissioner Shah Khawar as its new interim chief on Wednesday 24 January. PCB COO Salmar Naseer, directors and other staff welcomed Shah Khawar after assuming charge at the cricket board’s headquarters. Shah Khawar will now take charge till the PCB elections, which are scheduled to be held within a month. Let us tell you that in 2021, no PCB Chief has completed his tenure since Ehsan Mani. Rameez Raja served for 15 months (September 2021 – December 22), while Najam Sethi (December 2022 – June 2023) and Zaka Ashraf (July 2023 – January 2024) also served for less than a year.
