This veteran player can replace Gautam Gambhir in IPL 2025, has an old relationship with RR
IPL defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders are in talks with Kumar Sangakkara for the role of mentor. In 2024, they appointed Gautam Gambhir as the mentor and the team finally managed to win the trophy. Soon after, the former cricketer was offered the role of India’s head coach, which he accepted. With Gambhir’s departure, the position of head coach is now vacant in the team. Meanwhile, Sangakkara has been associated with Rajasthan Royals since 2021. He has done a commendable job with the team as under his leadership the franchise played the IPL final in 2022 and finished third in 2024. However, according to recent media reports, former India head coach Rahul Dravid may now join Rajasthan in the role of coach. At the same time, the franchise has ended its contract with Sangakkara. Vikram Rathore can become the batting coach of RR Reports also state that former India batting coach Vikram Rathod is likely to join RR. Keeping this in mind, Sangakkara has reportedly decided to part ways with the franchise. According to The Telegraph, talks are on between Kumar Sangakkara and KKR, but he also has offers from other franchises. The former Sri Lankan international is considering his options and may take a decision in the next few days. KKR already has Chandrakant Pandit as head coach and Bharat Arun as bowling coach but they have to fill other positions as well. Batting coach Abhishek Nair and fielding coach Ryan ten Doeschate joined the Indian team after Gambhir became the head coach. The franchise is currently looking for their replacements as well. The Shreyas Iyer-led side also wants to retain most of its players for the upcoming edition of the tournament. Co-owner Shah Rukh Khan has already spoken about this in the BCCI meeting with the IPL franchises in July.

There is no possibility of election of a new secretary of the board in the AGM meeting. Jay Shah (Image Credit- Twitter X) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is scheduled to hold its 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 19 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Bengaluru. The state associations have been informed about the AGM meeting on Thursday, September 5 through a notice. The meeting will begin with the inauguration of the much-hyped High Performance Centre in Bengaluru. BCCI secretary will not be elected in the AGM meeting There is a lot of discussion going on about who will become the new BCCI secretary after Jay Shah becomes the ICC chairman. There are reports of Arun Jaitley’s son Rohan Jaitley becoming the BCCI secretary. There were speculations that the BCCI secretary would be elected in the AGM. However, there is no possibility of the board’s new secretary being elected in the AGM meeting on September 29. If the Annual General Meeting (AGM) goes as planned, the BCCI will have to hold a Special General Meeting (SGM) to elect a new secretary, which will be held on December 1 before Jay Shah’s tenure as ICC chairman begins. Roger Binny may be elected BCCI representative Another important point in the 18-point agenda is the appointment of BCCI’s representative in the ICC meetings, as Shah will no longer be available for that role. The board will have to appoint someone who knows the ins and outs. According to sources, BCCI president Roger Binny is likely to be appointed as the BCCI representative in the ICC. According to a report in Cricbuzz, some of the other items on the agenda are – election and inclusion of two representatives of the General Body in the IPL Governing Council, inclusion of a representative from the Indian Cricketers Association in the IPL Governing Council, annual budget, appointment of Ombudsman and Ethics Officer. Appointment of Cricket Committee and Standing Committee and formation of an Umpires Committee.
“Becoming the head coach of India is not challenging…”, why did Virender Sehwag give such a statement…?
India has recently won the T20 World Cup and the players know their roles – Virender Sehwag Virender Sehwag (Photo Source: X/Twitter) After the T20 World Cup 2024, Gautam Gambhir replaced Rahul Dravid as the head coach of India in all three formats. Gambhir’s tenure as head coach has been mixed so far. Team India won the T20 series 3-0 in the Sri Lanka tour. At the same time, they had to face a 0-2 defeat in the ODI series. Meanwhile, recently former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag gave his opinion on the role of the head coach. Sehwag believes that this responsibility is not as difficult as it may seem from the outside. He also explained the reason why the players will have more burden than Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir is there to help them all- Virender Sehwag Talking about the interview given to Amar Ujala, Virender Sehwag said, I don’t think it is a challenging role because it involves other professionals as well. The team has recently won the T20 World Cup and the players know their roles. Gambhir’s arrival will give clarity to the players. It will be an added advantage. The challenges will be less for Gambhir and more for the players, because now they will feel that after the T20 World Cup they have to win the Champions Trophy or the WTC Final or the World Cup. But of course, Gambhir is there to help all of them. Sehwag never wants to become the head coach of Team India Virender Sehwag further revealed why he would never accept the role of Indian coach. However, he has expressed his desire to become an IPL coach. Let us tell you, Sehwag was the mentor of the franchise from 2016 to 2018 after representing Punjab Kings in 2014 and 2015. Not with the Indian cricket team, but if the IPL gives me a coaching opportunity, I can definitely consider it. If I become the head coach of India, I will have to return to the same routine that I have done for 15 years. To play for the Indian team, you have to stay out for 8-9 months a year. If I become the head coach of India, staying away from my children will be the biggest challenge for me. I will not be able to give time to my children. But yes, if the role of coach or mentor is available in the IPL, I can accept it.
