This is India’s 13th Olympic medal in men’s hockey. The team won the gold medal in 1928, 1932, 1936, 1948, 1952, 1956, 1964 and 1980. It won silver in 1960 and bronze medals in 1968, 1972, 2020 and 2024. Let us tell you, this was the first time since 1972 that India has won back to back medals in hockey at the Olympics. In the battle for the bronze medal, Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh scored two goals in the 30th and 33rd minutes of the match, while the only goal for Spain was scored by captain Marc Miralles from a penalty stroke in the 18th minute. Spain attacked many times and also won many penalty corners, but they failed to get past PR Sreejesh. This match was also the last match of Indian goalkeeper PR Sreejesh.
