According to a survey conducted by the World Cricketers Association (WCA), the number of cricketers who consider the T20 World Cup as the “most important” ICC event has increased from 15 per cent in 2019 to 35 per cent in 2024. In the survey, 30 per cent of the cricketers, who were from Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, Bangladesh and West Indies, also chose T20 as the most important format. When Flower was told about the survey, he said he was “astonished”— He told the Times of India, “I am surprised. I think the 50-over World Cup is important because it is played every four years. I think cricket is in danger if we have a T20 World Cup every two years… it will become commonplace. I don’t want anything called a ‘World Cup’ to become commonplace.
