The Pakistan Cricket Board appointed Babar Azam as the captain of all formats in 2020. Under Babar’s captaincy, the team reached the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2021 and the final of 2022. But then he resigned from the captaincy after the team’s poor performance in the ODI World Cup 2023. Although the board handed over the captaincy of white-ball cricket back to Babar Azam ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, the team’s performance was disappointing. Pakistan was eliminated after the group stage round after losing matches against India and USA. Mohammad Wasim further said that the four coaches had given the names of some players who were not right for the team.
