The senior selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar is all set to choose India’s T20 World Cup squad in the last week of April. The names of many players are before the selection committee and now it remains to be seen which players will be able to make a place in Team India. Meanwhile, there is one name which is being discussed a lot and that is Dinesh Karthik. Experienced wicketkeeper batsman Dinesh Karthik has also given a statement that if the selection committee is considering his name then he is ready to play in the T20 World Cup.
With the success of this season’s IPL, Dinesh has once again started dreaming of playing for the Indian team. Dinesh will turn 39 when the World Cup starts on June 1. He also played in the last World Cup held in Australia in 2022. This was his last participation in the Indian team. Since then he has been working as a cricket commentator. However, after getting a chance to play in IPL again, Dinesh seems to have been reborn. With 226 runs so far, he is the third-highest run-scorer for Royal Challengers Bangalore behind Kohli (361) and Faf du Plessis (232).
Dinesh Karthik will not get a place in the team: Scott Steeris
Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris has completely dismissed Dinesh Karthik’s chances of making the T20 World Cup 2024 squad, saying India have many other options to choose from. Styris said that Karthik may miss out on IPL 2024 despite being in great form, hinting that India will focus more on selecting other players.
Scott said in his statement while talking to Jio Cinema-
“In the commentary we were asked about wicketkeeping options. Who is at the forefront of the claim for this? The question was asked about Dinesh Karthik. I would say there is a little more than zero percent chance that Dinesh Karthik will be selected for the World Cup. Not because of lack of capacity, but India has other options apart from them.”
Styris told that there is a race between KL Rahul, Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant for a place in the team. In such a situation, the selectors will take the decision keeping in mind the role of the players.
