The first T20 match between India and Sri Lanka will be played on 27 July.
The three-match T20 series between Sri Lanka and India is going to start on 27th July. Just before the start of this series, the Sri Lankan team has suffered a double blow. Two star fast bowlers of the team are out of the entire series. Dushmantha Chameera has been ruled out of the upcoming home series against India due to bronchitis and respiratory infection. Now Nuwan Tushara has also been ruled out of the series due to a finger injury.
Fast bowler Asitha Fernando has been included in the Sri Lankan squad in place of Chameera. Tushara’s replacement has not been announced yet. Sri Lanka Cricket announced the team for the T20 series against India last Tuesday. However, in a press conference after this, the team selector said that Chameera has been ruled out of both the T20 and ODI series due to injury.
Sri Lanka Cricket Board confirmed about Dushmantha Chameera
Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed on Twitter that Fernando will replace Chameera, who is suffering from bronchitis and a respiratory infection. “Dushmantha Chameera is still recovering from bronchitis and a respiratory infection, and therefore he will not be a part of the T20I series. Asitha Fernando joins the squad in place of Chameera,” they wrote.
After the T20 series on this tour, a three-match ODI series will be played between the two teams. This will be India’s first big series in Sri Lanka after the retirement of Rohit-Kohli and Jadeja. Both teams will take the field with new head coaches. Veteran all-rounder Sanath Jayasuriya has been named as the interim head coach of Sri Lanka, while this is also the first tour of former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir with Team India after becoming the head coach.
