In the first innings for Australia, captain Pat Cummins took four wickets for 41 runs in 17 overs while Josh Hazlewood took four wickets for 44 runs in 15 overs.

In reply, Australia scored 283 runs losing all the wickets in its first innings. On behalf of the team, Travis Head played a valuable inning of 119 runs in 134 balls with the help of 12 fours and 3 sixes. Apart from Head, opener Usman Khawaja scored 45 runs.
