Former New Zealand fast bowler Doug Bracewell has been banned for one month after he tested positive for cocaine and its metabolite benzoylecgonine. Bracewell had consumed cocaine after playing in a domestic T20 match in January this year. Let us tell you, while playing for Central Districts, Bracewell had performed brilliantly in that match.

According to a statement from the Sports Integrity Commission, Doug Bracewell had used cocaine. But, this had nothing to do with his performance. However, cocaine is banned in sports as per doping rules.

Therefore, Bracewell was given a one-month ban, which came into effect on April 11, and served less than three months on the condition that he participate in a treatment program to control his cocaine use. Let us tell you, Bracewell was in the headlines several times from 2010 to 2017 due to such incidents.

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) Chief Executive Scott Wennink said that 34-year-old Doug Bracewell has confessed to his crime and has also accepted the punishment. According to media reports, Scott Weenink said,

Doug’s error of judgment; Accepts full responsibility for the consequences of his behavior and the penalties imposed. As an organization, we will continue to provide support to Doug – who is fully aware of our expectations going forward.

Talking about Doug Bracewell’s international career, he has taken 74 wickets and 568 runs in 28 test matches. At the same time, he has taken 26 wickets in 21 ODI matches and 20 wickets in 20 T20 matches.
