India’s top order batsman Shubman Gill was seen sweating it out in the nets at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium (PCA) in Mohali ahead of India’s upcoming domestic season. He wore India’s Test jersey during practice and hit a powerful shot off a local bowler. Two months ago, he was made India’s vice-captain in ODIs and T20s and now he has a big responsibility on his shoulders, especially to prove his ability.
Gill is training hard ahead of the start of India’s upcoming domestic red-ball season, especially for the Duleep Trophy which begins in four days. He will lead India A in the tournament but he needs to perform well in the Duleep Trophy matches to make it to the squad for the two Tests against Bangladesh.

Apart from Shubman Gill, big players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, Akshar Patel, wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav and fast bowler Mohammad Siraj will also play in this tournament. Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja will play for Team B. Team B includes Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Washington Sundar.
Shubman Gill’s Team A includes Kuldeep Yadav, KL Rahul, Shivam Dubey and Riyan Parag. Apart from these big cricketers, Shubman Gill will also have the responsibility of handling experienced names like Mayank Agarwal and young players like Dhruv Jurel. Shubman Gill was last seen in action in the ODI series against Sri Lanka earlier this month. Then he scored 57 runs in 3 matches at an average of just 19.
Shubman Gill scored 73 runs in two matches at a strike rate of 137.73 in T20 Internationals. Shubman Gill is now focused on regaining his form in the Duleep Trophy 2024, which is part of Team India’s preparation for the red-ball season.
