Vikram Rathore has played the role of batting coach for Team India.
The New Zealand cricket team is currently on a tour of India. The Kiwi team is to play a Test match series against Afghanistan between 9 and 13 September, which will be held at the Sports Complex in Greater Noida. After coming to India, New Zealand has made two legendary coaches a part of its team. They have added Vikram Rathore to their coaching staff for this one-off Test.
Let us tell you, Rathore’s tenure as batting coach with Team India has recently ended. New Zealand also has to play a three-match Test series against Team India in India in October, considering which this is being considered a big move by the Kiwi team. Apart from Vikram Rathore, New Zealand has also appointed Sri Lankan veteran Rangana Herath as spin bowling coach for this Test match, who will work with spinners like Ajaz Patel, Mitchell Santner and Rachin Ravindra in Indian conditions.
Vikram Rathore joined the Kiwi team
New Zealand Cricket wrote in its press release that Sri Lankan spin bowler Rangana Herath has been appointed as the spin bowling coach for the three Test matches to be held in Asia. He will replace former Pakistan spinner and coach Saqlain Mushtaq, who was earlier announced to take up the temporary role but later withdrew his name to take up a position with the Pakistan Cricket Board.
Let us tell you, after the only Test against Afghanistan, New Zealand has to tour Sri Lanka where they have to play a two-Test series from September 18. This series will be a part of the WTC. These two veterans can be very useful for New Zealand in Asian conditions. Blackcaps coach Gary Stead said that Herath and Rathore will not only give new information to the team but will also give information about the local conditions.
He said, “We are very excited to have Rangana and Vikram join our Test group. Both players are highly respected in the cricket world and I know our players are eagerly looking forward to the opportunity to learn from them. It will be very beneficial for our three left-arm orthodox spinners, especially Ejaz, Mitch and Rachin, to have the opportunity to work with Rangana in three Test matches in the subcontinent.”
