Mohammed Shami took the most wickets in the World Cup 2023.
After missing out on India’s first few matches in the ODI World Cup, Mohammed Shami made a tremendous comeback and took 24 wickets in seven matches. He finished as the leading wicket-taker in the tournament and also became India’s leading wicket-taker in the history of the tournament. Soon after, Shami was awarded the Arjuna Award by the Government of India and is currently working on his fitness to return to Team India.
Meanwhile, in a recent interview the star pacer said that Kohli cannot stop himself from showing his aggression on the field. Shami said the 35-year-old gets embarrassed when asked about celebrating on the field and added that he cannot stop doing what he does because it is in his nature to be aggressive.
Mohammed Shami spoke about Virat Kohli’s way of celebrating
Mohammed Shami was quoted by News18 as saying, “Virat Kohli celebrates more than any bowler after a wicket. I tell him many times that it is good that you are not a bowler. He enjoys doing this. This is his style of playing. It is in his nature. He couldn’t stop himself even if he wanted to. Once I showed him a picture and asked what it was? He jumped higher than the height of the stumps and I said, this is my wicket brother. He said, leave it, forget it (laughs)
During this, Shami also expressed his desire to captain Team India. Among bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah led the team in England and Ireland, but Shami was never considered for the same role. Speaking about it, the Bengal fast bowler mentioned that he would also love to captain Team India.
Shami said, “Who wouldn’t want (to become India captain)? If anyone refuses to take responsibility as captain of the national team, he will be an abomination. I would definitely like that. Shami said, I would like to take some responsibility for my country.
