Former RCB captain Virat Kohli expressed his gratitude to Dinesh Karthik for motivating him when he was low on confidence during IPL 2022.
Dinesh Karthik has decided to retire after playing his last match of IPL 2024 with RCB. Karthik played his last international match for the Indian team on 2 November 2022 against Bangladesh in the last T20 World Cup. After this, he played his last match against Rajasthan Royals on 22 May in IPL this year.
After RCB’s defeat at the hands of RR in the eliminator match of IPL 2024, a sweat-soaked Dinesh Karthik accepted defeat with a heavy heart and after that he took off the cap from his head and gloves from his hands. Then every RCB player ran towards Karthik. Former India captain Virat Kohli also ran towards him and hugged him tightly.
Rajasthan Royals players also greeted him. The entire stadium started chanting ‘MISS YOU DK’, meanwhile Kartik bowed to the fans with tears in his eyes and returned to the pavilion, ending his career of two decades.
After Dinesh Karthik’s retirement, Virat Kohli has talked about some of the moments spent with him. Along with this, he also told how Dinesh Karthik helped Kohli during his bad times.
Let’s read what Kohli said in the video shared by RCB-
“The first time I met DK, I remember we were in South Africa and if I am not wrong, it was the Champions Trophy 2009 tournament. This was the first time I shared a dressing room with Dinesh. I found him to be an entertaining, hyperactive, and confused guy. Most of the time he was moving around and not stopping.”
“Dinesh Karthik is full of talent, he is a great batsman. There hasn’t been much change between the first time I saw him bat and what I see now. Yes, now he has just developed the quality of generosity and patience.”
Kohli also shared a story recalling IPL 2022 when he got out for a duck 3 times in a row. Kohli told that Karthik sat with him and boosted his confidence.
“Off the field, I have had some very good and interesting conversations with him. He is an intelligent person, he has a great knowledge about many things, not just cricket. I have thoroughly enjoyed my conversations with him. Even at that stage of 2022 when I did not have a good IPL season, I was really struggling for confidence. Then he sat me down and told me a lot about how he was looking at things that I might not be able to see.”
“So, I like his honesty and courage to go up to someone and talk about things that he feels strongly about. And I think that is the most special thing for me when it comes to Dinesh and it is something that I have always remembered about him. That is why we get along so well.”
