Kohli will be seen playing on the cricket field for the first time after the birth of son Akay.
IPL 2024 is going to start from today and in the opening match, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. However, considering Virat Kohli’s record on this ground, this is not an ideal place for him. Kohli will be seen playing on the cricket field for the first time after the birth of son Akay.
Kohli had left the five-match Test series against England because his wife Anushka Sharma recently gave birth to a son. Now after that break, Virat has returned for the upcoming season of IPL.
Last time, Virat Kohli played a fighting innings and scored a half-century against Australia in the league stage match of the ODI World Cup at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Therefore, he will hope to continue the same form here in IPL 2024.
Virat has played 12 matches at this venue
During the edition of IPL played so far, Virat Kohli has played 12 matches at this venue, in which he has scored 363 runs at an average of 30.17 and strike rate of 111.38. Despite being a good batsman of spin, he has had to struggle here. He has been able to score only two half-centuries.
RCB has also faced several defeats on this ground, including the 2011 final against MS Dhoni & Co. Nonetheless, RCB won three matches during the 2021 season.
Kohli has not looked impressive here, but what is more worrying is his strike rate. He has scored runs at a strike rate of only 125. The last time CSK and RCB started the IPL season in Chennai, Kohli was out after scoring 6 runs in just 12 balls, his second lowest score at the stadium.
