Former India head coach Rahul Dravid is not someone who shows a lot of emotion on the field. However, after India’s seven-run win over South Africa in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados, Dravid showed his other side. He celebrated wildly with the trophy. He tried to stay away from the limelight for as long as possible, but when Virat Kohli handed him the trophy, he showed a side of himself that surprised everyone after the hard-earned win.

When asked about his behavior, Dravid revealed that he had not planned any of what he did on the field and he was just happy with India’s win. He said that as a coach, he always tried to keep his emotions in check, but at that moment, he wanted to celebrate with the team and his coaching staff as everyone had worked very hard for this trophy.

Former Indian head coach Rahul Dravid claimed that he had no plans to show the emotions that were expected during the 2024 T20 World Cup celebrations with the Indian team. Notably, India ended their 11-year wait for the ICC trophy by defeating South Africa by seven runs in the final.

Rahul Dravid said on Star Sports

“You don’t plan these things. Most of the time, I try to keep my emotions in check as a coach and that’s what’s expected of you. But at that moment, I was really happy for the team. I was happy for the boys. I was happy for the support staff. So many people who had worked really hard with me.”

You need a bit of luck to go your way: Rahul Dravid

“I was with the team for 2.5-3 years and we came close to winning many times, be it the semi-final of the last T20 World Cup in Australia, the World Test Championship final or the 50-over World Cup final in India, and we couldn’t get the win in those crucial moments. In such situations, you need a bit of luck and a bit of fortune and that’s what happened to us that day.”
