Australian veteran player David Warner retired from Test and ODI formats in January this year. He then played his last T20 International against India on 24 June during the T20 World Cup 2024. Announcing his retirement on social media, Warner had said that if the team needs him for the Champions Trophy 2025, he can return to the national team.

Australia is going to play a five-match Test series against India under the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home from November 22. Warner has expressed his desire to join the team for this also. However, David Warner’s wife has rejected his return to the national team.

David Warner’s wife gave this statement

Expressing his desire to join the Australian team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, Warner told News Corp, “I am always available, (Cricket Australia selectors) just have to pick up the phone.”

David Warner’s wife Candice Warner denied reports of his return and told Fox Sports’ The Back Page,

He is very keen to play for Australia and I think if selector George Bailey or coach Andrew McDonald picked up the phone and said ‘we need you’ he would be ready to go. But that’s definitely not going to happen. I think he wouldn’t have said that if he really didn’t think he was capable of doing it, but that’s no disrespect to any opener or people (for selection). If he has to go down that path to playing again, he has to do it the same way as everyone else playing the Sheffield Shield and everything like that. But this is not happening.

There has been a tremendous decline in the ranking of Indian captain Rohit Sharma. Before the New Zealand series, the T20 World Cup-winning captain was ranked 15th in the ICC Men’s Test batting rankings. But after a very poor performance in three out of four innings of the ongoing Test series, he dropped nine places to 24th. This is the lowest ranking of Rohit Sharma in the last 6 years. After Rohit’s innings of 63* and 5 runs against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in December 2018, he had reached 44th position. And after scoring a few centuries against South Africa in October 2019, he made a tremendous improvement in his ranking, reaching 17th position. Not only this, Rohit was in the top-10 between February 27, 2021 and February 21, 2023. He achieved an all-time high rating of 813, which came in September 2021. This was a time when he was the fifth best Test batsman in the world. In the ongoing Test batting rankings, his teammates Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant have also dropped six and five places to reach 14th and 11th position respectively. Kagiso Rabada overtook Jasprit Bumrah On the other hand, if we talk about bowling rankings, South African pacer Kagiso Rabada has snatched the first place from India’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. He has now reached the top in the men’s test bowling rankings. Rabada is performing brilliantly against Bangladesh. He recently took nine wickets in the first Test of the series. Pakistan’s Noman Ali has also shown his talent in the Test bowling rankings. After his brilliant performance in two test matches against England, he has reached the top-10.
