The first match of the 3-match T20 series was played between South Africa and South Africa on 23 August. South Africa had set a target of 175 runs for the West Indies. Thanks to Nicholas Pooran’s aggressive innings, the Men in Maroon achieved the target of 175 runs in 17.5 overs for the loss of three wickets and defeated the Aiden Markram-led team by seven wickets.
Nicholas Pooran batted at number three in this match played at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba and remained unbeaten after scoring 65 runs in just 26 balls. During his stay at the crease, he hit two fours and seven sixes. Pooran hit four sixes off Nandre Burger’s ball in the 12th over of West Indies’ innings. This aggressive form of his is being liked a lot.
To break the second wicket partnership, South African captain Aiden Markram brought in Burger to attack. But his move backfired on the visiting team and Nicholas Pooran smashed four consecutive sixes off his balls. After conceding one run on his first two balls, Burger lost his momentum, and Pooran took advantage of that by hitting four big sixes and scoring 25 runs in the over.
