Sunrisers Hyderabad surprised many fans by deciding to retain Abhishek Sharma ahead of the mega auction in 2022. However, the young player has won the trust of his team by performing well in the last few seasons of the Indian Premier League. Recently, he played a big role in Punjab’s first win in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Sharma scored 485 runs in ten matches at a tremendous strike rate of 192.46. Despite this, he has not got a place in Team India yet.

The opening batsman made his debut in first class cricket along with Shubman Gill. Shubhman has now become an all-format player for Team India, while Abhishek is still yet to make a mark in the scheme of things. In such a situation, the upcoming edition of IPL will be very important for them. If he scores runs with the bat in the upcoming IPL season, then he can be included in the national team in place of any senior cricketer after the T20 World Cup.

Meanwhile, talking about his batting technique, Sharma said that he likes to hit shots on bad balls, no matter which format he is playing. The 23-year-old said that his idol Yuvraj Singh made slight technical adjustments to his batting and said that he wanted to be like him.

Abhishek Sharma was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying, “The basic things are the same. In T20 you try to score runs on every ball whereas in other formats you have extra time. But I have a simple philosophy. It doesn’t matter what the format is, if a ball is there to hit, I will hit it. Whatever technical adjustments I needed were done by Yuvi Paaji.”

He further said, “When I started playing cricket, he was my idol. I always wanted to be like him. I first met him in the Punjab team. Maybe he saw something in me. He always guides me. He really supports me. Whenever I am out on a low score, he always talks to me. He is always confident about my next match. After talking to me, I get a lot of encouragement. “Even off the field, no one can give better guidance than Yuvraj Singh.”
