Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his best wishes to fast bowler Mohammed Shami after he underwent Achilles tendon surgery in London on Monday, February 26. Modi expressed confidence in Shami’s ability to recover quickly from this injury. Shami, who has not played cricket since India’s loss to Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final, was injured during the same tournament.
Earlier, after the World Cup debacle, the Prime Minister had encouraged the players, including Shami, for their efforts in the Indian dressing room. The 33-year-old gave an update on his health via social media, posting pictures from his hospital after the successful surgery. Actually, while sharing four pictures after the surgery, Mohammed Shami wrote, ‘Just got a successful operation of Achilles tendon in the heel. Recovery will take some time, but I am looking forward to getting back on my feet again.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on Shami’s social media post, ‘May you get well soon and Mohammed Shami, I am confident that you will overcome this injury with strength.’ Mohammed Shami was overjoyed by PM Modi’s message. He called this message a surprise for himself.

He played a key role in India’s commendable performances in both the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup, where Team India emerged as runners up. He took 24 wickets in just seven matches in the ODI World Cup and emerged as the highest wicket-taker of the tournament.
