The former Indian cricketer is currently playing for Manipal Tigers in the third season of Legends League Cricket (LLC) 2024 and is leading the defending champions. During the franchise tournament, Harbhajan was asked which player he sees as a possible successor to Ravichandran Ashwin.

Harbhajan Singh has selected a young bowler from Punjab, who can fill the place of Ravichandran Ashwin after his retirement from international cricket. Cricketer-turned-commentator Harbhajan named 17-year-old Anmoljeet Singh, who he said has shown a lot of talent and can carry forward the legacy of off-spinners in India.

Harbhajan Singh told CricTracker in an exclusive interview – Anmoljeet Singh will replace Ashwin.

“Anmol, who is from Punjab and was recently selected in the U19 team against Australia, can carry forward the legacy of off-spin and possibly replace Ashwin.”

India got the ideal spinner in the form of Ashwin

India got a brilliant bowler like Ashwin at the end of Harbhajan’s career, who cemented his place in Indian cricket after him. This off-spinner from Tamil Nadu not only made his place but also registered his name in history by breaking many records.

Recently Ashwin celebrated his 38th birthday, but he showed that he is still not slowing down by winning the ‘Player of the Series’ award in the two-Test series against Bangladesh. However, India will have to prepare for Ashwin’s successor in the coming years so that he is not missed whenever he retires from cricket.

Who is Anmoljeet Singh?

Anmoljeet, who idolizes Harbhajan, took a lot of wickets in the last two seasons, following which he was selected in India’s U19 squad for the two Youth Test matches against Australia. He took 65 wickets in the Vijay Merchant Trophy U16 national tournament and played a key role in winning the title for Punjab.

Anmoljeet did not get a chance to play in the first four-day match against Australia in Chennai. The second match will start from October 7, and it will be interesting to see if this talented player is included in the squad.

I think he really is the best player in the world. Honestly, sometimes I think bowling like him is a joke! You see him bowling and you just think, I’m glad I don’t have to come out to bat.” He further said, “I was surprised that India went there (Australia) and defeated Australia, where usually it is very difficult to go and play cricket. Perth, I know it’s not the WACA; I know it’s a new stadium, but still, historically, Australia hasn’t lost many matches there. I thought India performed very bravely there.” Let us tell you that, Bumrah now has 118 wickets in 27 Test matches in SENA countries at an impressive average of 22.55, which also includes his career best performance (6/33).
