Telangana CM Reddy, while addressing the state assembly on August 2, revealed that preliminary discussions have been held with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the construction of the new stadium.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced plans to build a second international cricket stadium in Hyderabad. The move is aimed at boosting the state’s sports infrastructure and promoting cricket at the highest level.
Hyderabad already has the iconic Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium which has been the hub of cricket in India for a long time. Be it IPL or Test matches or ODI cricket, the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium hosts every format.
The proposed new stadium is therefore being built as part of the Telangana Government’s comprehensive initiative to enhance sports facilities and encourage athletic talent across the state.
Discussion has been held with BCCI to build a new stadium
CM Reddy, while addressing the state assembly on August 2, revealed that preliminary discussions have been held with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the construction of the new stadium.
This new stadium will be built in Begari Kancha Village (Rangareddi) located on the outskirts of Hyderabad, where the foundation of Young India Skills University was recently laid.
Telangana government allocates Rs 321 crore for sports
The government has expressed its willingness to provide land for the stadium. Addressing the Assembly on Friday, CM Reddy said that if the BCCI agrees to build an international standard stadium, the government will provide the land.
Along with this, the Chief Minister also told about many other initiatives related to sports.
- Reddy said that sports need to be promoted on a large scale to save the youth from bad habits.
- Work is underway on a new sports policy, which will be presented in the next assembly session.
- The government is also examining the sports policy of Haryana as a possible model.
- To prove its commitment towards sports development, the state has allocated Rs 321 crore for sports in the 2024-25 budget.
- The Telangana government is also taking steps to felicitate and support its athletes.
- The state Cabinet has decided to allot houses of 600 square yards each to shooter Isha Singh, two-time world boxing champion Nikhat Zareen and international cricketer Mohammed Siraj.
- Apart from this, Nikhat Zareen and Siraj will be given Group-I jobs.
