Under the captaincy of Ashwin, Dindigul Dragons won the Tamil Nadu Premier League tournament for the first time.
Tamil Nadu batsman Baba Indrajith has praised Ravichandran Ashwin’s incredible leadership skills in Dindigul Dragons’ (DD) title campaign in the recently-concluded Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) season. Both the players played a key role in helping the team win their maiden TNPL title.
The ever-reliable Babarjit finished as the third-highest run-scorer of the tournament with 286 runs in 10 matches at an average of 40.85 and a strike rate of 133.02. Meanwhile, Ashwin scored 252 runs at an average of 36 and a strike rate of nearly 152 and was fifth on the list of highest run-scorers.
Let us tell you that under Ashwin’s captaincy, Dindigul Dragons have won the title of the tournament for the first time. The Dindigul Dragons team was barely able to qualify for the playoffs by finishing fourth in the points table. In an interview with Cricket.com, Baba Indrajit praised Ashwin’s leadership and said that Ashwin’s biggest desire is to win the IPL trophy as a captain.
“Definitely everyone will look at him as a captain, his cricket sense is very good. He always thinks about being one step ahead of the batsman or bowler. He has all the leadership qualities, I think his dream is to win the IPL trophy as a captain.”
Ashwin made the team a champion by taking it out of difficult situations
DD needed to win three consecutive play-off matches to win the title and Ashwin scored a hat-trick of half-centuries in these 3 matches and helped the team achieve the glory of becoming champion. In bowling too, he took nine wickets at an average of 27.55 and an economy of less than seven.
Ashwin may play the role of captain in IPL 2025
At present, many teams need a captain in the upcoming mega auction. In such a situation, after winning the Tamil Nadu Premier League, the franchise owners will definitely keep an eye on him. Let us tell you that this 37-year-old experienced spinner has captained Punjab Kings (PBKS) in two IPL seasons in 2018 and 2019, but on both occasions the team missed the playoffs.
