In the first test match played in Sylhet, Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by a margin of 328 runs.
The first Test match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka was played at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. This test match, which started on March 22, lasted for four days. Sri Lanka completely dominated throughout these four days. Especially in batting, Sri Lankan team was far ahead of other teams. In this match, Bangladesh won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat first.
At one point in the first innings, the Sri Lankan team had lost five wickets for 57 runs. It seemed that Bangladesh bowlers would soon all out Sri Lanka, but after this captain Dhananjay de Silva and Kamindu Mendis played century innings and took Sri Lanka out of the difficult situation. Due to the century innings of these two batsmen, Sri Lanka scored 280 runs in the first innings.
Both the batsmen were out after scoring 102-102 runs. Talking about Bangladesh’s bowling, Khalil Ahmed and Nahid Rana took three wickets each. In reply, Bangladesh batsmen were all out after scoring 188 runs in the first innings and Sri Lankan team got a big lead.

Taijul Islam scored the highest score of 47 runs for Bangladesh. For Sri Lanka, Vishwa Fernando took four wickets, while Kasun Rajitha and Lahiru Kumara got three wickets each. Sri Lanka did not have a good start in the second innings also. Sri Lanka had lost six wickets for 126 runs. But then captain Dhananjay took charge of the innings and scored a century in the second innings also. Kamindu Mendis also scored a century in the second innings.
Dhananjay was out after scoring 108 runs, while Kamindu Mendis played an inning of 164 runs. Apart from these, Dimuth Karunaratne played an inning of 52 runs and in this way Sri Lanka scored 418 runs in the second innings. Mehndi Hasan Miraj of Bangladesh took four wickets in the second innings for Bangladesh. Bangladesh was also reduced to 182 runs in the second innings and thus Sri Lanka won the match by 328 runs.
With this victory, a big change has been seen in the points table of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25. The Sri Lankan team has gained tremendously in the WTC points table, while the Bangladesh team has suffered a loss. The England team is also at a loss due to this victory of Sri Lanka, because the team has slipped to the last position.
